This week I decided to go fishing with brothers Dylan Lewis and Grant Lewis. We found that just a simple trip down the Pecan Bayou in Brownwood, Texas would do for their first time out fishing with me. The temperature was in the mid 60s with a slight breeze. There were a few clouds in the sky, but for the most part it was rather clear.

As I usually do, I put in at Riverside Park in Brownwood, Texas which is very convenient for access to the Pecan Bayou. For our lures, we mainly stuck to Worden’s Rooster Tails in various colorations and sizes. Primarily we used chartreuse colored lures in sizes of 1/6 oz and 1/8 oz.

As we started down the river it did not take long for our first bite to happen. Dylan Lewis casted with a somewhat medium approach which lured a nice size bass to bite his Rooster Tail, but unfortunately it came off right when he was about to grab it. Shortly after though, his brother Grant hooked up with a nice slab of a Crappie shown below.

This Crappie started a little feeding frenzy as we caught a couple nice bass in about forty-five minutes. As we reached a small flood control dam on the Pecan Bayou going towards Lake Brownwood, Dylan almost hooked up with a giant bass, but miraculously he had the same result as his first hook up: he lost it right by the boat. The only difference was that this time it broke his line showing the strength of a large fish. Although we never got a clear view of the Largemouth, we could judge that it was clearly over five pounds, and with his line breaking there was a good possibility of it being over six pounds. So if you are interested, there is a nice bass out there waiting for someone to go catch it.

At the end of the day Dylan set many records as he caught the most fish out of anybody, but he also lost the most fish out of anyone and had his lure stuck on logs more than anybody. This just goes to show that taking risks produces big results as he almost had a very large bass and caught well over six bass. Grant did not catch quite as many as his brother Dylan, but he did set a record of catching the only Crappie of the day, which is in fact the first Crappie that I have ever seen on the Pecan Bayou. In the end, it was a good day that started out fast and ended a little bit slow, but it was a good day of fishing.
