castanedaEarly Police officers arrested a man Thursday for allegedly assaulting a woman and her baby at an apartment in the 1000 block of Early Blvd.

Early police responded to the apartment around 10:30 AM and could hear a woman screaming for help and what sounded like someone getting thrown around the room and against the wall, according to a report released by Early Police Chief David Mercer.  Officers forced entry into the apartment when a female leaned out a 2nd story window holding an 8-month-old baby screaming “he’s gonna kill me, hurry help,” the report states.

According to the report, the suspect, 23-year-old Nathan Brian Casteneda (pictured), allegedly struck the female victim multiple times with his fist, throwing her into the wall, jerking the baby away from her and throwing it to the side.  The victim told police that the suspect also pulled a knife on her at one point and struck her with a guitar, the report states.  Police also report that the victim said that Casteneda took the phone away from her when she tried to call 911.

The woman and baby were transported to the hospital by Guardian EMS for treatment of injuries.

The report states that the victim told police that Casteneda had been with her approximately 1 week after she met him on Facebook, and he came from Florida to stay with her.

Castaneda is being held in Brown County Jail on bonds totaling $80,000 for assault by strangulation, aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury, abandon or endangering a child, and interfering with an emergency call.   Mercer said that he was also wanted from Florida on robbery charges.  Casteneda will face charges in Brown County before being taken back to Florida, Mercer said.
