maultsbySara Maud Lindsey Maultsby, 90, a lifelong resident of San Saba, Texas, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 in Brownwood, Texas.

She was born March 28, 1922 in San Saba, the daughter of Archie B. Lindsey and Bess Dean Lindsey. Sara Maud went to school in San Saba, and graduated from San Saba High School in 1939. On May 2, 1942, she and her high school sweetheart, William A. (Bill) Maultsby were married in San Saba, where they made their home. Three children were born to this union, Brenda, Billy, and Lolly. The family worshipped at the First Baptist Church where she was member until her death. Bill passed away March 18, 1970. Prior to enrolling in beauty school, Sara taught a kindergarten class, where she invested her life in the early lives of some of the youngsters in San Saba. She later became a beautician, and continued her profession in excess of fifty years. In their younger years, Bill and Sara spent their spare time on the archery range. They enjoyed archery and excelled in the sport, advancing to the Nationals in West Virginia. She loved to fish, and cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family and shopping was her passion. In her later years, most of her evenings were spent playing Canasta with her special friends, “The Golden Girls”, including Louise McNair, Elizabeth Barker, Dorothy Gage and Catheryn Dismuke. They ate their evening meal together, then headed to one or the other’s home for a few games, and of course catching up on the latest current events.

Sara Maud is survived by her two daughters, Lolly Maultsby of Angleton, TX and Brenda Land of San Saba, TX; one brother, Roland Lindsey of Austin; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grand-children, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son; one grandson; one brother; and two sisters.

Pallbearers for the service will be Walter Maultsby, Len Means, Les Means, Kevin Land, Jason Means, Jonathan Means, Jordan Means, Cooper Means, and Klint Land. Honorary bearers will be Brandon Means, Damon Mays, J.D. Bourke, Jacob Bourke, Sam Maultsby and Garrett Maultsby.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the Blaylock Funeral Chapel, 1205 South High, San Saba, TX, with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel Monday, March 4, 2013, 6:00-8:00 P.M. The family requests that memorials be made to the San Saba County EMS or to the American Cancer Society.
