Loyd Stringer

StringerLoydGraveside funeral services Loyd Dale Stringer, age 94, of Early, will held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 18, 2013 in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 3:00 until 5:00.

Mr. Stringer died Friday, February 15, 2013 in Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Loyd was born on July 6, 1918 in Klondike to T. B. and Effie Moore Stringer, one of eleven children.  He attended Klondike and graduated from Klondike High School.  He married Mildred Teel on October 15, 1943 in Miami, Florida.  She passed away on January 9, 2009 after sixty-five years of marriage.

Loyd served his country in the US Army in World War II.  He enlisted with the National Guard in October 1940.  His unit was federalized in November and was sent to Camp Bowie in December of 1940 for basic training.  He participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, landing at Omaha beach on June 6, 1944.  He saw service in northern France, Belgium, and Germany before being discharged in October 1945.  In late 1945, Loyd and Mildred came to Brownwood to visit her sister and decided to stay.  Loyd was self-employed in the building trades for most of his life.

Loyd is survived by two sons, Phillip Stringer and wife Michelle of California and David Stringer and wife Bea of Early; five grandchildren, Shawn Stringer of Plano, Jeff Stringer of Dallas, Katie Stringer of California, Daniel Stringer of Bangs, and Adam Malone of Brownwood; two great-grandchildren, Stormy Stringer and Hutton Malone; a sister, and two brothers, Gerald and Bob Stringer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and seven siblings.
