Early High School is excited to announce that it will begin delivering additional services to students through a half-time Transition Coordinator.
In her new role, Kristi Sandoval (pictured on right), who also serves as the girls’ head basketball coach for EHS, will begin Monday, February 11th, working with seniors. “A Transition Coordinator,” explained EHS Principal, Jennifer Kent, “is someone who specializes in working individually with 12th graders in ensuring they are taking all the necessary steps as they transition from high school to post-secondary education.”
“There are so many important deadlines the senior year and having someone at school to function as a senior mom is essential for us to realize the vision of EISD of “becoming the best and accepting nothing less,” Kent added. “We were able to add this part-time position with existing resources already in place.”
Ms. Reca Godfrey, EHS Guidance Counselor (pictured on left), is thrilled to have the extension of services to seniors. “We inform students of all their opportunities through a wide variety of ways- from email list-serves, daily announcements, parent meetings, bulletin boards, participation in college fairs, and digital media,” shared Godfrey. “The addition of a Transition Coordinator will increase our customer service to new heights with each senior’s progress towards post-secondary acceptance being carefully monitored and assistance provided.”
In addition to the Transition Coordinator position, a classroom located near the front of the school is being converted to a Go Center in which students and parents will have a place to go to work on scholarship applications, research colleges on computers, or get assistance on any aspect of post-secondary education.
Ms. Sandoval, who is in her 9th year in education, embraces the challenge and is excited to work with students in a new way. “Many of our students will be first-generation college students and will need help in planning where to go, how to get in, and how to pay for it,” Sandoval explained. “I have a passion for helping kids and I know we can change lives through education.”
