BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of January along with year-to-date numbers for 2012 and 2013.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley reports that there were 110 reported crimes in January which is slightly decreased from the previous month.  Of these crimes, 47.3% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Of note, reports of assaults decreased by 13 incidents or 24.6% during the month of January as compared to December.  January statistics also show that larceny theft reports also decreased by 9 incidents or 16% from the previous month.

Traffic accidents for January are up by 5 incidents for the month when compared to December.  Incidents of driving while intoxicated are also on the rise, with 3 more cases this month than in the previous month.

Year-to-date, 2013 appears to be off to a better start than 2012, with 47.3% of crimes committed being cleared, compared to 15% for the same time from during the previous year.

See below for the December 2012 and January 2013 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2013 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
