Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes presented a recognition award Tuesday for National Night Out to Chandra Means of the Brownwood Police Department and Ray Tipton of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.

2012 was Brownwood and Brown County’s third year to participate in the NNO event and the third year to receive an award.  Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley spoke of his pride in the community for once again receiving this recognition.

“The evening was a huge success and for the 3rd consecutive year, our program was recognized with a national award from the National Association of Town Watch.  Our category (population 15,000 to 49,900) consisted of 284 applications and out of 41 winners, we ranked number 27,” explained Corley.  The citizens of Brown County can take great pride in this award as it was truly a community effort.”

As Mayor Haynes presented the award, Tipton made a statement thanking Corley and Mayor Haynes for their vision and dedication which brought the event to Brown County.

“Chief Corley brought all his knowledge and expertise from Richardson.  And I remember this vividly, Mayor Haynes, when he was campaigning for Mayor at a debate, that he stated specifically that he would like to implement National Night Out,” said Tipton.  “I know you guys don’t like to take any credit, and even if we are doing the work, you are the ones that made it happen.”

Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers was the title sponsor of the local National Night Out event.   Brown County will once again hold National Night Out this year in October.
