starsoftexaslogo1With the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit set to begin in a few weeks, area artists are preparing their works for the show, but photographers should also prepare for a new competition which has been added to this year’s list of activities.  The first Digital Photo Shootout will take place on Saturday, February 9th at the Art Center, 215 Fisk Avenue, in Brownwood as part of this year’s Stars of Texas events.

Participating photographers of the shootout will photograph a predetermined subject/location and prepare a single image for judging within a specified time period.  The final image will be projected on a large monitor in lieu of a printed image for judging.

Registration will take place at the Art Center, located at 215 Fisk Avenue in Brownwood from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Completion of final image is due at 3:00 PM.  There is a $20.00, nonrefundable entry fee.  The competition is open to all photographers 18 and older.  Juror of the contest is to be announced.

A “Best of Shootout” will be chosen and other monetary prizes and number of awards will be dependent upon the number of entries, as registration fees will comprise the prize amount.

The subject and/or location will be in the downtown Brownwood area to be announced during registration, and the subject must be able to be identified in the final image.

Participants must provide their own digital equipment including camera, any props or models, computer (if needed), and any accessories needed to complete the final image.  Workstations with access to electricity will be provided at the Art Center.

Blank and formatted camera card must be presented at registration and prior to shooting.  Any and all types of digital enhancements can be made to the final image with any software or in-camera processing. Final image can be any size, at a resolution of 72 ppi in the jpg format.  All images will be saved to a separate flash drive and will be displayed on a single computer/monitor/TV for judging.

The 15th Annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit will open to the public February 3rd through 15th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood.  Entries to the show will be due January 25-26.  In addition to the exhibit and Photo Shootout contest, daily art demonstrations will be given in the Depot, and the annual Paint-off competition will also take place on February 9th.
