Flossie Lillian Finley Richey of Brownwood, TX passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013.  She was 94 years old.  Services will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 16, 2013, at Austin Ave. Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early. Visitation will from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday, January 14 at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, 800 Center Ave., Brownwood.

Flossie was born to Tom Finley and Minnie Newman Finley, on November 9, 1918, at Fort Spunky near Glen Rose, TX.  She was the fifth of eight children.  The Finley’s soon moved to West Texas to raise cotton and cattle south of Loraine.  It was there that Flossie met her husband of 74 years, Ray Richey.  The two were married September 17, 1938 in Snyder and soon made their home in Big Spring, TX.  Throughout WWII the couple traveled to bases across the U.S. while Ray served as an aerial gunnery instructor.  Upon completion of service to their country, the couple returned to Big Spring to raise their family.  Flossie was a full-time homemaker, raising their son, Phil, and was actively involved in their church and community.

Upon retirement in 1973, the Richey’s moved to Southwest Missouri to run a ranch they had developed.  They eventually returned to their home state of Texas and lived in Stephenville before settling in Brownwood in 1985 to be near their son’s family.

Flossie was well known for her cooking, piano playing and homemaking. She loved to cook for family and friends, play the piano and take care of her plants and flowerbeds.  She was an active member of Austin Ave Church of Christ.  Nana, as she came to be known, loved children and played an important part in her granddaughter’s and great-grandchildren’s lives.

Flossie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lester, Estes and Doc Finley and sisters Vista Key, Velma Butts and Zula Collier.

Flossie is survived by her husband, Ray Richey, son Phil and wife Judy all of Brownwood, granddaughter Phyllis Havens, husband Zach, and children Parker and Addison of Stephenville and granddaughter MaryLynn King, husband Justin and sons Dillon and Cameron also of Brownwood.  She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Sandy Langohr of San Angelo and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family requests that memorial be made to Cherokee Home for Children in lieu of flowers.
