HPUlogoThe Howard Payne women’s basketball team outscored Schreiner University 6-0 in the final two minutes of the game to take the conference win 48-43 Thursday evening.

A Tresta Donahoo three-pointer with 1:39 remaining in the game gave the Lady Jackets a 45-43 lead. Howard Payne held Schreiner scoreless in the final minute and a half to secure the 48-43 victory.

HPU struggled shooting to start the game but rallied late to hold a 29-23 halftime advantage. After shooting 41% from the field in the first half, HPU was just 6 of 33 from the floor in the second half for 29% in the game.

The Lady Jackets forced 22 Schreiner turnovers and held a 17-0 fastbreak point advantage over the Mountaineers. Schreiner did have the rebounding edge in the game 50-46.

Tresta Donahoo led HPU with 18 points and four steals. Senae Dillard grabbed a team high 10 rebounds. Dana Marrs added nine points with a game high six steals.

Schreiner was led by Katie Isom with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Lindsey Peterson added 12 points.

Howard Payne improves to 12-2 overall and 7-1 in conference. Schreiner falls to 5-10 overall and 1-8 in conference. The Lady Jackets will take on Texas Lutheran University on Saturday in the Brownwood Coliseum at 1:00 pm.

The Howard Payne men’s basketball team managed just 26% shooting and fell 65-43 to conference opponent Schreiner University Thursday evening.

Howard Payne’s shooting woes were not only from the field as the Jackets were 11 of 22 from the free-throw line in the game.

After the Yellow Jackets found themselves down 35-19 at the half, Schreiner extended their lead to 26 points by starting the second half with a 10-0 run.

Howard Payne was able to cut the Mountaineers lead to 17 points, 47-30 with 11:42 to play. That was as close they would get as the Jackets dropped the game 65-43.

Christian Davis and Donovan Ford led the Howard Payne with nine each. Davis also added six rebounds.

Schreiner was led by Travis Pflughaupt with a game high 14 points and 7 rebounds. AJ Myres followed with 10 points.

Howard Payne falls to 4-10 overall and 2-6 in conference. Schreiner improves to 6-8 overall and 4-5 in the ASC. The Jackets will play Texas Lutheran at home on Saturday at 3:00 pm.
