VFW Post 3278 and the Ladies Auxiliary presented a $500.00 check to Extension Program Specialist Mark Carroll of the Texas 4-H Center.

The donation will buy supplies to be used for the Veterans Service Project during a teen leadership retreat at the Texas 4-H Center in January.

“Teen Retreat,” as it is called, is designed for senior 4-H members (ages 13-19) and is intended to develop leadership skills through workshops and hands-on experiences.  The retreat’s program is designed to allow teens to explore new or revised projects and curricula resources and return to implement them in their own counties.

Sessions include food, fitness, robotics, dancing and a service project (which this year is the Veteran’s Service Project) and more according to organizers.

During the retreat, attendees will learn how to make fleece blankets.  Carroll stated the group will make 20 of the blankets which will be given to local veterans.  Approximately 120 4-H members from across the state will be attending this event according to Carroll.

Pictured above (left to right) during the check presentation are Commander VFW Post 3278 Keith King; James Masters USA, retired; Mark Carroll, Texas 4-H Center; and Ladies Auxiliary President Major Jane Masters USAR, retired.
