The first night of Brownwood’s Christmas Under the Stars Festival on Friday drew a large crowd and was a great success according to organizers.  Hundreds of kids and parents enjoyed all of the great activities, competitions, and entertainment that the festival had to offer.   KTAB News broadcasted their 5pm and 6pm weather live from the festival showing off all of the fun happenings.

Many booths and activities filled the Depot Civic and Cultural Center, Adam’s Street Community Center and the Lehnis Railroad Museum.

One highlight of the evening was pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Depot, where there were many other activities taking place such as Christmas Karaoke, Wii Sports games, Letters to Santa, bake sales, marshmallow shooters, fingernail painting and face painting, Christmas bag decorating, and more.  At the Adam’s Street Community Center, kids were busy with many activities, such as making wooden crosses, decorating a giant gingerbread house, decorating pet bowls.  The Lehnis Museum featured the Christmas Tree Auction, coloring book pages, Christmas ornament decorating and photo frame decorating.

Individual musicians, the Brownwood High School Band, Ranger College Choir, the Early Elementary Local Vocals, dance groups and gymnasts all performed during this first day of the festival.

Many of the booths offered free activities while some were fundraisers for non-profit organizations and service groups.  There was a little something for most everyone.

Other activities including a rock climbing wall and ice skating took place outdoors during the event.

Contests for the day included a Zumba Jam Dance-Off and a Pet Costume Contest.

All of these great activities and attractions and more will be happening again on Saturday, December 8th from 4-8pm.

In addition, several competitions will take place on Saturday as a part of the festival.   Saturday’s competitions include:

-Santa’s Sleigh 5K Run & 1.5 Mile Walk – Sponsored by TexasBank, 8am at Gordon Wood Stadium

-Treats for Santa Bake-off – at Bertrand Technology Solutions Meeting Room in the Chamber of Commerce – Saturday, 4pm

-Amazing Race – Inside the Depot ballroom– Saturday, 5:30pm

The 4th annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival is sponsored by the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, KTAB News, and 3M Company.
