Brownwood ISD Special Needs classes from Coggin Elementary and Brownwood Middle School traveled to the TREAT Rodeo at the Tarleton Equine Center in Stephenville, Texas on Tuesday, October 30th. There they enjoyed participating in events such as pole bending, stick horse barrel races, goat ribbon relay, bucking barrel riding, dummy roping and petting farm animals.

“The special event that they all enjoyed the most was getting to ride a real horse,” reported Alice Cox, Director of Special Education at Brownwood ISD, adding that the students were also provided with refreshments and event t-shirts.

The same group of students traveled to Stephenville again on Thursday, November 8th to “Rock the Gym,” held in the Wisdom Gymnasium on the Tarleton State University campus. “Rock the Gym” is a free event designed specifically for public school students with special needs. The theme of the event this year was a 1970’s motif.

“The students enjoyed music and dancing, carnival-type games, social time and just lots of fun,” noted Cox.  Afterwards, the classes stopped by CiCi’s Pizza for lunch before returning to Brownwood.

“Teachers Michael Kunkel from the middle school, and John Darrin Barker, from Coggin Elementary, did a great job coordinating these trips,” said Cox.  “These events provide a great opportunity for these students to both learn and have fun.”
