The Brownwood Jaycees along with friends and supporters hosted a brisket sandwich fundraiser for “the Texas Snake Man” Jackie Bibby on Saturday in the Hastings parking lot to help him with medical expenses.

Bibby was bitten by a rattlesnake during a corporate show in Addison, Texas in September resulting in a right leg amputation.  Funds raised during the event will help Bibby pay for the approximately $50,000 prosthesis to replace his leg.

The fundraiser featured good food, music and snow cones.  Paul “Goat Willie” Coghlan cooked up wonderfully flavorful brisket, served with chips and a drink for just $6.  Island Phil, Bob Brewer and Billy Kendrick performed creating an enjoyable atmosphere.  To top it off, Tahitian Snow served up snow cones of many flavors for donations.

Bibby stated that he is humbled by the support of his fans and friends.

“I’m really stunned.  Even when I was in the hospital for a month, people came to see me, wrote letters and sent cards,” said Bibby.  “I was shocked; it’s been a very humbling experience.”

Organizer Pat Mclaughlin stated that the Brownwood Jaycees decided to host the event because Bibby is “one of our own” and that he has given a lot to the community with his support throughout the years performing at the annual Jaycees’ Rattlesnake Roundup in Brownwood.
