EricEvansBrownwood ISD School Board Trustee Eric Evans won Tuesday night’s election and will retain his seat on the board in Place 4.

Evans received 200 votes or 47.96%.  His opponents Stanley Walker, Jr. received 116 votes (27.82%) and Brant Baugh 101 votes (24.22%).

Evans said that he is thrilled that the election was over and he is grateful for the voter turnout that he attributed to a three-person race for Place 4.

“It gave us an opportunity to really think through why we’re doing what we are doing,” Evans said. “I think it is important that people that are on the school board have purpose.”

Evans said that voting errors discovered in the first two days of early voting were detected quickly thanks to officials at the elections office.

“I have been very pleased with the administrators of the election office here in Brownwood and Brown County,” Evans said. “They went above and beyond trying to make sure that everybody who is eligible to vote gets to vote, is aware of being able to vote and do that.”

Evans’ opponent Stanley Walker, Jr. agreed with Evans.

“I think the whole process went real well,” Walker said.  “I think once we found the errors, they were corrected in a very timely manner.”

Walker brought the voting error to election officials’ attention in the first days of early voting where seven ballots were cast from ineligible voters after the school district’s recent redistricting process.

Two new school board members will join Evans and other sitting trustees at their next meeting.  Brad Jetton and Diane Thompson each filed as unopposed candidates in their places for the school board.
