Early Police Department began an investigation of forgery on July 9, 2012 where 3 checks were forged and passed totaling over $8000 by 2 different individuals, according to EPD Chief David Mercer.

Two of the checks were passed at a bank in Early while one check was passed at a Brownwood business. Brownwood and Early PD officers and detectives worked together comparing videos and handwriting on the checks and identified the 2 suspects, Mercer said.  The two suspects were apparently from the Houston Area, and complaints were filed with the District Attorney’s office and warrants were obtained for both individuals, according to Mercer.

Mercer reports that Darryl Keith Hunter of Houston was arrested on Monday, October 29th by Houston Police Department; however the second suspect Mario Cervantes of Houston is still at large.
