BISD_leaping_for_a_cureIn support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Brownwood ISD has announced a “Pink Out” day on Friday, October 26th.  Brownwood ISD is encouraging students, teachers, staff, and parents to wear pink t-shirts on that day to work, school, and the football game.

“We’re all going to work on this together, since the cause is so great,” said Dr. Reece Blincoe, Brownwood ISD Superintendent.  “We’ve met with Coach Shipley, [BHS Principal] Mr. Faircloth, the cheerleading sponsor, the Key Club, and this is one of the biggest collaborations I’ve been a part of at the high school.”

To add to the spirit, Brownwood ISD students are permitted to wear pink hats and are also allowed to temporarily dye their hair pink for the day.

Custom pink t-shirts are available for $10 by contacting any campus or the Brownwood ISD Administration Office, but they must be pre-ordered by 4:00 p.m. Monday October, 15th.  Proceeds will go into a cancer fund to benefit local families battling cancer.

“I think that’s a big thing that came out of our meeting,” said Blincoe.  “We want to keep the money local, because we’ve got some people we can help.”

DaLin Cummings, a Digital Media Specialist at Brownwood Middle School was recently diagnosed with cancer, and according to school officials this “Pink Out” day will not only raise awareness, but will also be a dramatic display of support for her and other local families fighting the disease.
