Update 12:30pm: Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Delgado reports that two young Brownwood women are still being treated at this time after the Thursday morning one-vehicle rollover accident.  No condition is available at this time.

Miranda Elizondo and Brenya Simental, both 18, were ejected from the Isuzu Trooper as it flipped 3 ¼ times on the highway, according to Delgado.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time; however Delgado confirmed that neither girl was wearing a seatbelt.

“There was proof that no seat belts were worn, as both belts were in the resting position and locked,” explained Delgado.  “At the time of an accident, the belts are designed to lock in whatever position they are currently in.”

Delgado also stated that speed was a factor to the severity of the accident and that the investigation determined the vehicle to be traveling at 84 mph when it began to roll.  According to Delgado, the vehicle swerved off of the road, then the driver overcorrected causing it to rollover.

Delgado said that he could not determine who was driving the vehicle as both girls were ejected and unable to talk at the time of the accident.

Miranda Elizondo was transported by Native Air to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.  Brenya Simental was flown by Air Evac to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

Delgado stated the wearing of a safety belt is very important; that safety belts can save lives and lessen the possibilities of severe injuries in accidents such as these.  He urged that everyone should wear a seat belt at all times when in a vehicle.

Original article: A one-vehicle rollover accident on U.S. Highway 183N, just north of the community of Owens, resulted in the airlifting of two people Thursday morning.

At approximately 7:40am, emergency responders were called to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover where two females were found to be ejected from an SUV.  The extent of the injuries required both to be airlifted, one to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene and the other to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.  No information regarding the condition of the occupants was available at this time.

Department of Public Safety troopers on scene stated that the vehicle appeared to have traveled off the road after crossing the oncoming traffic lane, came back into their own lane, then overturned.

Early Volunteer Fire Department, May Volunteer Fire Department, Early Police  Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, Brownwood Fire Department, Guardian EMS, Air Evac Lifeteam, and Native Air responded to the scene.

Pictured above is the wrecked vehicle.  Below are more photos of the accident scene.
