A dominating performance by Abilene Wylie leaves the Brownwood Lions with a non-district 38-14 loss Friday night taking the Lions to a 1-3 record on the season.

Although the defensive front played a good game, according to Brownwood High School Head Coach Bob Shipley, the Wylie team showed the Lions some of their weaknesses that they will have to work on before upcoming district games.

Shipley stated that there were some miscommunications which cost the Lions, such as an uncontested touchdown.

“To win we needed to play mistake free and we certainly didn’t do that,” said Shipley.  “We need to do a better job running the ball.”

Despite the loss, Shipley said there were some good points of the game.

“Dylan Martin had a fantastic kickoff return.  The defensive penalty helped us in our position,” said Shipley.  “That first touchdown grab (one-handed by Cooper Howey), when I saw the ball released and the arc, I thought there was no way he’ll get that, it was amazing.  So there were some good things in this game.”

Shipley said there were some things the Lions have to work on, which include raising their level of play.  He said the coaches need to continue to encourage the and motivate the players, and the team has to eliminate errors.
