CorinneTSmithLogoCorinne T. Smith Animal Center will be at AgMart from 9:00am until 12:00pm Saturday, September 22 to microchip pets.

CTSAC will provide microchipping for $20 per pet, and this service will be offered inside the store.  During this time, AgMart will have a special running, those who buy a collar will receive a free engraved tag for their pet.

A microchip is a small device about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted beneath the pet’s skin which contains a unique number used to identify the animal. This number links to owner contact information in an online registry that allows shelters, clinics, veterinarians, and humane organizations to contact an owner if their lost pet is found.  Owner contact information is not stored in the microchip itself.

According to the Discovery Channel’s How Stuff Works website, a pet microchip uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.  RFID uses radio waves as a medium to transmit information. An RFID tag stores data and, using electromagnetic forces for power, communicates that data to a device that interprets it.

So mark your calendar for Saturday and get your pet microchipped by CTSAC at AgMart from 9:00am-12:00 noon.  For more information, contact the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center at 325-646-0617 or visit their website.
