WATCHDOGSBrownwood ISD announces that the WATCH D.O.G.S. program that was started in 2011 at the Woodland Heights Elementary campus was a success and is back for the 2012-2013 school year.

WATCH D.O.G.S.®, a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year.

The program is designed to bring in and provide positive male role models for the students. The WATCH D.O.G.S. volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.

A criminal background check will be conducted prior to being allowed on any campus.

Woodland Heights (3900 4th) WATCH D.O.G.S. Kick-off event will be on September 11, 2012 from 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m.

Northwest Elementary (311 Bluffview) WATCH D.O.G.S. Kick-off event will be September 20, 2012 from 6:00p.m. to 7:30p.m.

Coggin Elementary (1005 Ave B) WATCH D.O.G.S. Kick-off will be announced in the coming weeks.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is the father involvement initiative of the National Center For Fathering. Inspired by one father’s desire to increase male involvement in his children’s school and with the help of the schools teachers and administration, WATCH D.O.G.S. was created in 1998 at George Elementary in Springdale, AR. Since then, the program has spread to more than 2276 schools in over 41 states and other countries abroad.
