Brownwood Lions’ kicker, senior Matthew McCrane was notified Thursday of his selection to the 2013 U.S. Under-19 National Team program.

Team USA will compete in February in Austin at the International Bowl, which is held on the eve of college football’s National Signing Day.  The team along with McCrane, will compete against the IFAF World Team, which is comprised of the best football players from around the world.

McCrane was selected, according to Nick Pennisi of the USA Football Development Programs, “based on the outstanding football skill, leadership and character” he displayed over this summer as a member of the U.S. Under-19 IFAF World Championship Team.

McCrane will start his senior year at Brownwood High School on Monday and varsity play which continues tonight in a scrimmage against Marble Falls.  The Lions’ season opener will be played at Fort Worth Brewer against Fort Worth All Saints August 31st.
