Angerstein Captures WTJCT Division Championship

11-year-old Jake Angerstein from Early won the 9 – 11 Coed Division of the season ending 2-day West Texas Junior Champions Tour held in San Angelo.  Jake will be a 6th grader at Early Middle School and is the son of Jason and Diana Angerstein.

Angerstein won the division with a 37 – 36 – 73. The WTJCT Championship event was held at the San Angelo Country Club on Thursday and Friday, August 2-3.

Angerstein finished his first round (37) with a 2 shot lead, and then ended the second round (36) in first place with a 5 stroke lead. Angerstein qualified for 1 of 24 spots in this Championship tournament by earning points throughout the summer season at various tournaments across West Texas on the WTJCT. Angerstein also placed 1st in the West Texas Junior Open in Abilene in June automatically qualifying him for the Tour Championship.

Other area golfers who participated in the tournament were:

  • Luke Kinkade  of Blanket, 85- 82- 167,  5th in 12-13 boys division
  • Marki Kinkade of Blanket, 123-119-242, 5th in 12-14 girls division
  • Sydney Roberts of Brownwood, 79-74-153, 1st in 15-18 girls division
  • Kwinton Reno of Early 81-80-161, 15th in 16-18 boys division
