The Pecan Valley Republican Women hosted a ‘meet the candidates’ forum Wednesday night at Ranger College for the Republican Primary Runoff Election scheduled for July 31.  Local candidates for Brown County Commissioner each gave a brief presentation as well as candidates and their representatives for statewide offices.

Brown County Commissioner Precinct 1 candidates Tommy Blevins and Gary Worley participated as well as Brown County Commissioner Precinct 3 incumbent Richard Gist and challenger Wayne Shaw (see video comments below).

U.S. Senate candidate David Dewhurst was represented by Joe Maley and his opponent Ted Cruz was represented by his father Rafael Cruz.  The pair made a brief presentation and took a round of questions from the audience (see video clip below).

Candidate for the Supreme Court Justice Place 4 David Medina sent a written statement which was read by Brown County Republican Chair Sam Stewart.  Medina’s opponent John Devine sent Joe Pool, Jr. to speak on his behalf.

Railroad Commissioner candidate Christi Craddick was represented by her campaign manager Lauren Hamner while opponent Warren Chisum did not participate.   Candidate for the unexpired Railroad Commissioner seat Barry Smitherman was represented by his wife Mari Jane and his opponent Greg Parker appeared in person.

See videos below of the opening statements by the local candidates and a clip of the exchange between the representatives for U.S. Senate.
