Brownwood Police report that a bicyclist was struck by a car Monday night as he traveled on Main Street in front of Main Street Liquor, but refused transport to the hospital after the incident.

Approximately 10:30pm, emergency responders were called to a vehicle striking a pedestrian.  According to Assistant Chief of Police James Fuller, the bicyclist was traveling in the middle of the roadway and did not have the proper safety equipment such as a headlight or rear light.  Due to the lack of visibility, the bicyclist was struck by a vehicle.  Fuller stated that the bicyclist refused medical help and was able to leave the scene.

Fuller explained that bicyclists must take safety into consideration in order to avoid being involved in an accident.

“One of the things people need to remember and understand is that police aren’t making traffic stops on bicyclists just because we want to, we’re doing this because of serious safety violations,” said Fuller.  “Cars tend to slow down when they see bike headlights and reflectors,  and having these is extremely helpful to all motorists.”

The bicyclist in this accident was able to walk away from this accident; however this could have resulted in more serious injury, Fuller stated.  Brownwood Police Department, Brownwood Fire Department and Guardian EMS responded to the scene.

Friday, July 13

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible scam.  According to the report, the complainant stated that he had listed a washer and dryer for sale on Craig’s list and received a text message from an interested buyer on June 12th.  The buyer stated that he would pay $30 extra to hold the appliances until the buyer was ready to pick them up, the report states.  When no money was received, the complainant stated that he sold the appliances to another buyer; however on July 5th, he received a text message stating that the funds would be there today and for him to send the remaining amount to an address in Waco, Texas.  A priority package arrived with a check for $1485.62 from Alfa Life Insurance Corporation, which could not be verified with the bank or Alfa Insurance Company.  The complainant believed it to be a scam and did not deposit the funds into his account, and he decided to report the incident to law enforcement after he began getting threatening text messages.   The complainant was advised to put a block on his phone for that number and the check was taken as evidence by BCSO.

Monday, July 16

*11:53am-Brownwood Police were called to the 300 block of Bluffview where the apartment manager reported finding drug paraphernalia in an apartment whose occupants had recently been evicted.  According to the report, the apartment was in the state of disarray with trash scattered on the floor, including two handmade aluminum pipes in two different rooms.    Each of the pipes had residue consistent with tobacco and marijuana, according to the officer’s report.  Both were tagged and placed into evidence at Brownwood Police Department, the report states.

*1:48pm-Brownwood Police responded to the 2500 block of Good Shepherd regarding criminal mischief.  According to the report, the complainant stated that sometime between the hours of 3:30pm on July 15th and 11:00am on July 16th, someone had put sugar in his vehicle’s gas tank.

*2:24pm-Brownwood Police were dispatched to the 200 block of E. Commerce regarding theft.  According to the report, a complainant stated that her cell phone, valued at approximately $240, had been stolen.

*4:16pm-Brownwood Police spoke with a complainant at the Law Enforcement Center who reported that a trailer he had parked in front of Doc’s Drugstore, 3800 Hwy 377S, had been stolen.

*2:30pm-Brown County Sheriff’s Office received a report of stolen livestock.  According to the report, the complainant stated that he was missing 13 head of white/yellow colored cattle and one black cow and that most of the animals had a “7M” brand on the left hip.  The complainant stated that he had been looking for the animals since 8:00am and that they were valued at approximately $9400.

*Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Christopher Scott McCabe of San Angelo for Fraudulent Use/Possession of Identifying Information, Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Grade 3 Greater than 28 grams Less than 200 grams, and Failure to Identify.

Tuesday, July 17

*Early Police arrested 54-year-old Leslie Ray Davis, Jr. for Driving While Intoxicated.

*Texas Department of Public Safety arrested 36-year-old Juan Estevan Lara for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or More.

All arrestees are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
