comptrollerlogoTexas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for July which showed Brown County cities continuing a positive trend overall in year-to-date numbers, but Brownwood sales tax numbers stayed virtually flat this month compared to July of last year.

Brownwood showed only a 0.02% increase in sales tax allocations for the month in July compared to July 2011.  Brownwood is up 5.96% year-to-day according to the Comptroller’s office.

The City of Early showed a sale tax boost for the month with a 3.82% increase in July and a 1.62% year-to-date increase.

Bangs and Blanket also showed increases for the month in sales tax.

Statewide, Combs will send July local sales tax allocations totaling $534.6 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. July sales tax allocations are up 12.7 percent compared to July 2011

“Sales tax revenue has increased for 27 consecutive months in Texas,” Combs said. “Strong business spending in industries such as manufacturing and oil and natural gas boosted the latest sales tax collections. Revenue from consumer spending in the retail trade and restaurant sectors also did well.”

July sales tax allocations represent monthly sales made in May.
