commcourt2Jule Richmond, president of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation board, presented a request to Brown County Commissioners Monday to increase the amount of money contributed for Brown County Flood Prevention sites in the upcoming financial year.

Currently there are 58 sites being worked on, while on 28 sites the initial maintenance and operation is completed.  The sites were built in the late 50s to 70s through the USDA. There are 10 lateral sites which either directly or indirectly affect the City of Brownwood.

Currently the County Commissioners court is contributing $10,000 a year to the project. For the upcoming year Richmond would like to raise the amount to $15,000 a year due to inflation and the increasing cost of fencing, and dirt work. Richmond states that keeping the flood prevention sites maintained is a lot of work, but the saving of property and life is worth it.

Also on Monday’s Commissioner’s Court agenda:

-A burn ban proposal was on the agenda but was decided against due to the recent rains.

-Frank Griffin with the County Court at Law presented the consideration of purchase of UV light covers for their office. An employee’s health is negatively affected by the lights, according to Griffin. The purchase was approved.
