BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of June along with year-to-date numbers for 2011 and 2012.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley reports that there were 91 reported crimes in June which is down by 35 incidents from the previous month.  Of these crimes, about 33% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Of note, reports of burglary of a building were zero for June, down from 8 reports in the prior month.   Larceny theft was also down in June compared to May but is still up year-to-date.

Year-to-date statistics for 2012 show that larceny theft reports have increased more than 40% over the same time period last year.    Assaults have also increased with most of the other statistics remaining about the same.

DWI arrests are up year-to-date as well with the Brownwood Police reporting 59 compared to 37 from January to June of last year.   According to stats, motor vehicle accidents inside the Brownwood city limits was also slightly down year-to-date.

See below for the May and June 2012 crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2012 and 2011 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
