HermanHughesGraveside services for Herman Hughes, 50, of Abilene, formerly of Brownwood, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 7, in the Oplin Cemetery in Callahan County, with Rev. Jess Little officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, July 6, at Abilene Funeral Home, with services under the direction of Netherton Funeral Home.

Mr. Hughes passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene .

Herman Dean Hughes was born on October 29, 1961, in Brownwood, Texas to William R. Hughes and Bonnie Walters Hughes.  He attended school in the Brownwood area before moving to Abilene in 1970. Herman had worked in the oilfield for many years and was employed at Creek Well Service when he was forced to retire due to health reasons. He had a heart of gold that was full of unconditional love, and will be greatly missed by those he left behind.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Hughes of Abilene; daughter, Lisa Hughes of Abilene; stepchildren, Marcus McIntosh and Rene Newman, both of Abilene, Kathy McIntosh of Tennessee, Angie Kregar of Rule and Patricia Newman of Austin; his mother and stepfather, Bonnie and J.O. Roberts, of Anson; three brothers, Joe Lynn Woodcox of Odessa, J.W. Woodcox of Ft Worth and Carl Allen Hughes of Abilene; sister, Bonnie Lou Hollis of Abilene; stepbrother, Gerald Roberts of Clyde and stepsister, Sandra Hungerford of Victoria. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Hughes; three brothers and two sisters.
