AcePawsPetThe PAWS Project of the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Corrections Center of Brownwood announces their Canine of the Week who is also a Canine Good Citizen and a PAWS Graduate and is now up for adoption.

According to Holly Fenton, dorm supervisor of the PAWS Project, “Ace is house and crate trained.  Ace (pictured left) is very friendly and loves people and loves to be petted. He enjoys rolling around on the grass, chasing his tail, and retrieving sticks.  Ace does a great job on his recalls, he immediately comes to you.  He is also comfortable with being left in the care of another person. Ace would be a great canine for any family; he just needs the opportunity to be a family member.”

PAWS, or Pairing Achievement with Service, is a program at the Ron Jackson State Juvenile Corrections Center in Brownwood.  The PAWS program helps girls at the center to learn vital skills and how to care for another living creature while at the same time, benefiting the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center by training the dogs and making them in turn more adoptable.  Through the program participants learn responsibility and team work.  Even important vocational skills, such as grooming and caring for animals is learned through the program, which can potentially turn into a job such as dog groomer, dog walker, or even a job as a veterinarian tech.

For more information about adopting Ace, please contact Freda Day 325-646-0617 or Holli Fenton 325-641-4260.
