Jake Angerstein of Early brought home the 1st place trophy after competing in the 3-day West Texas Junior Open in Abilene June 18 – 20.  Jake won the title in the 9-11 Coed Division, shooting 42-41-43 for a 126 total.  Jake is the son of Jason and Diana Angerstein.

Brownwood athlete 14-year-old Sydney Roberts also placed well in the tournament taking a close 2nd in the 15-18 Girls’ Division.  Days 1 and 2 Roberts led the tournament going into the third day in first place.  Roberts finished the tournament shooting 82-87-90 for a total 259, only 3 strokes under 1st place Sidney Dermody of Sonora, a UIL high school state medalist.  Roberts is the daughter of Jeff and Diane Roberts.

The West Texas Junior Open participants played on three courses, Abilene Country Club (Club Course), Abilene Country Club (Fairway Course), and Diamondback Golf Club in a three day, 54 hole stroke play event (27 hole stroke play for 11 and under).  Age divisions were 6-8 Coed, 9-11 Coed, 12-13 Boys, 12-14 Girls, 14-15 Boys, 15-18 Girls, and 16-18 Boys.
