fireworks2Wild Duck Marina at Lake Brownwood is gearing up to celebrate Independence Day on July 7th with their first annual “4th of July Bash.”  The bash will include live music, a fireworks display, and will also be a fundraiser for a friend who was injured recently during a rock climbing fall.

The most important part of the event will be a fundraiser to help area resident Devin St. Ama who was injured over the weekend in a rock climbing accident near Bend, TX.  According to Angie Tyson of Wild Duck Marina, St. Ama, who is in his early 20’s, was injured while rock climbing during a family reunion when his safety rope broke and he plummeted approximately 70-75 feet, breaking his L3 vertebrae.  St. Ama is currently being treated at Breckenridge Hospital in Austin and currently has no health insurance, Tyson said.  St. Ama has undergone two surgeries to repair the damage.

Tyson explained that St. Ama has been a friend and employee at the Wild Duck off and on over the marina’s three year history.  She stated that the surgeries have gone well from reports she has received from his parents.

“We got good reports.  He is a strong kid,” said Tyson.  “He is very very lucky.”

According Tyson, the bash will feature live music by the Remains and Luke Holman with the first band starting around 5:30-6:00pm Saturday, July 7th, followed by a spectacular fireworks show presented by Atlas Fireworks around 9:15pm.  The second band will finish up the night after the fireworks. To enjoy the bash in the backyard area of Wild Duck, a $20 admission fee will be required.

The fireworks display is being sponsored by individuals as well as businesses of the area; however Tyson stated more sponsorships are welcome.

“We are still taking donations and sponsorships for the fireworks show,” said Tyson.  “The more sponsors and donors we have to support the fireworks show, the longer and better it will be.”  There will be food specials and lots of fun for everyone.

A percentage of the proceeds raised from admissions will be given to St. Ama along with a collection, when the Wild Duck “passes the hat” during the bash.  So come out and support a friend while having a great time celebrating Independence Day.
