Though summer is underway, a variety of camps and programs at Howard Payne University will keep the campus hopping. Approximately 2,300 campers of all ages, most of whom are visitors to the university, are expected to be on campus throughout June and July.

“We are overjoyed with the opportunity to introduce newcomers to the Howard Payne campus,” said Debbie Childs, facilities coordinator at HPU. “This will be their home away from home while they are here.”

In addition to band, athletic, JROTC and church camps, HPU will host the Baptist General Convention of Texas’ Super Summer. The program is a leadership training opportunity for Christian young people who are interested in advancing their personal spiritual growth and want to know more about sharing Christ with others.

Several camps for younger students will be held at HPU, including HPU’s Young Scholars and Summer Scholars day camps for students entering first-sixth grades and CentriKid Camp for students in third-sixth grades.

HPU students will facilitate most of the camps.

“Our students enjoy their roles with the summer camps,” said Childs. “It is a way for them to see HPU in a new light, away from the classroom, and an opportunity for them to minister to younger students.”

For more information about the activities on campus this summer, visit the “Summer Camps and Activities” link on HPU’s homepage,
