votebuttonThe Brown County Elections Office held a recount of the May 29th votes cast in the Republican Primary Election for Brown County Commissioner Precinct 1 on Wednesday ending up with the same count as Election Day, according to officials.

According to Larry Franks of the elections office, due to the race ending with such a close election for second place, candidate Vance Hill requested a recount after being knocked out of the runoff by 3 votes.  Hill has stated that he made the request because his supporters urged him to ask for the recount.  During the recount Wednesday, officials confirmed the Election Day results that Tommy Blevins received 543 votes with Gary Worley getting 339, and Vance Hill receiving 336.

Elections officials hand sorted early voting ballots and then counted all ballots for Brown County Commissioner Precinct 1.  After hours of counting, the results remained identical to that of Election Day officials said.

“It’s a testament to the election’s office,” said Brown County Republican Party Chair Sammie Stewart.

Tommy Blevins and Gary Worley remain the top two candidates and will face off in a runoff election on July 31, 2012.

The final report of votes cast and percentage of votes for commissioner Precinct 1 are as follows:

Tommy Blevins: 543, 32.36%

Gary Worley: 339, 20.20%

Vance Hill: 336, 19.96%

Bryan Harvey: 175, 10.43%

Jerry Richardson: 158, 9.42%

Van Wilson: 128, 7.63%
