Members of the American Gymnastics Association named Stephanie Ivey of Victory Gymnastics Academy in Brownwood as the Coach of the Year.  The Award was presented by AGA President Marsha Mayo during the AGA State meet in Alvin, Texas which was held May 19-20.

Mayo said, “Stephanie exemplifies the spirit of the American Gymnastics Association, and certainly deserves the award for her excellent contribution to the sport of gymnastics.  Each year the membership votes on nominees for the award, and Coach Ivey has been selected by her peers.”

In accepting the award, Coach Ivey said, “I am very honored to be selected Coach of the Year.  I accepted the award on behalf of our competitive team at Victory Gymnastics.  I have not turned a single flip all year – they have done all the work.  We have been very blessed with some hard working, talented athletes and very supportive parents.  We are very proud to say we now have State Champions in our gym at Victory Gymnastics.  Even though artistic gymnastics is sort of fresh to Brownwood, it goes back to the origin of the Olympics.  We are teaching the Olympic disciplines in uneven bars, floor exercise, balance beam and vault.  Our young athletes have really taken off.  Their future is very bright.”

During the five meet optional seasons, the ten member competitive team captured over 100 top ten finishes in the four disciplines and all around.

Stephanie Ivey graduated cum laude from Howard Payne University in 2006 and opened Victory Gymnastics Academy of Texas shortly thereafter.  She has been coaching the sport for over twenty years.
