Howard Payne University’s School of Business recently inducted four new members into the Sigma Beta Delta International Business Honor Society. The ceremony was held on April 17 in the Bullion Suites at HPU’s Mabee University Center.

This year’s inductees are Timber Curtis, a senior from Olden; Brandon Irwin, a May 2012 graduate from Thorndale; Tina Fuentes, a May 2012 graduate from Bangs; and Kelley Miller, a senior from Brownwood.

Ray Garza, assistant vice president in mortgage lending at TexasBank, was the keynote speaker. He is a 2002 HPU graduate and also a member of Sigma Beta Delta.

“The 2012 Sigma Beta Delta inductees have proven themselves worthy of this honor both in and out of the classroom,” said Dr. Les Plagens, dean of HPU’s School of Business. “Each has demonstrated outstanding academic performance as well as exemplary leadership on our campus.”

Sigma Beta Delta was founded as a national organization in 1994 for NCAA Division III universities and is accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. HPU’s chapter received its charter in 1999.

The honor society was established to recognize outstanding scholarship by students enrolled in institutions that have regional accreditation and to encourage and promote aspirations toward personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Its activities are coordinated with those of Beta Gamma Sigma and Delta Mu Delta, business honor societies at NCAA Division I and II universities, to ensure that all outstanding students of business receive the recognition they deserve. Membership is for life.
