The Santa Anna Foundation, in cooperation with the Santa Anna Cemetery Association, has received a Texas Historic Cemetery marker from the Texas Historic Commission for the Santa Anna Cemetery. Weather permitting; the marker will be dedicated on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28 2012 at 10:00AM at the gate of the Cemetery on FM 1176 South. Everyone interested is invited to attend.

The Santa Anna Foundation is an organization formed to promote historic and economic development in Santa Anna, as well as scholastic achievement by awarding scholarships to graduating SAHS Seniors in partnership with the Santa Anna Ex Students Association.

The Santa Anna Cemetery received Texas Historic Cemetery designation two years ago after the application process was completed by Santa Anna Foundation President, James Pelton, who is also President of the Santa Anna Cemetery Association. The designation is prerequisite of the marker application, which was approved earlier this year.

Donations were accepted by the Foundation to help cover the $1600.00 marker cost since it was not funded by the state and several were also interested in participating financially in the project. By Texas Historic Commission policy, donors cannot be listed on the marker but will be recognized during the marker dedication ceremony.

Officers of the Santa Anna Foundation are Rod Musick – Executive Director, James Pelton – President, Montie Guthrie III – Secretary, John Hensley – Treasurer, Tom Guthrie, and Chris Cheaney.

Santa Anna Cemetery Association Board members are James Pelton – President, Denise Montgomery – First Vice President, Oma Dean Horner – Second Vice President, Coyita Bowker – Secretary Treasurer, John Pearce, Wanda Campbell, and Lane Guthrie.
