Graduates of area schools will soon benefit from the recent $54,000 contribution made by TexasBank in to local high schools and schools of higher education.
TexasBank President Greg Dodds distributed checks to local high schools on Tuesday, including Early, Bangs, Brownwood, May, Blanket and Zephyr. Dodds distributed checks to Howard Payne University, Texas State Technical College and Ranger College Friday.
According to Dodds, TexasBank is proud to have the opportunity to assist local students in furthering their education.
“This is something we at TexasBank have been committed to for the last five years,” said Dodds. “It’s our commitment to the youth in the area to assist with continuing their higher education.”
With the current economic state, Dodds stated that TexasBank felt is necessary to once again make the scholarship donation.
“In this economic environment, we think it is critical for us to continue this endeavor,” said Dodds.
Area schools are given the funds and allowed to set the requirements for recipients of the scholarship money; however, TexasBank has one requirement – that the scholarships are given to graduates from the Brownwood/Brown County area market according to Dodds.
“TSTC gets a good portion of the funds because the biggest issue today is that people are told that you have to get a four year degree to be successful,” Dodds said. “The number of people graduating with a four year degree is exceeding the demands and college graduates are faced with many student loans and no job opportunities. Today, there is a high demand for employees who are technically skilled, such as trade school graduates.”
