Local residents will notice a big brown bag in each mailbox this week from the post office and are encouraged to fill it with non perishable items for the National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp out Hunger” food drive. This food drive will be held on Saturday, May 12th.

The public can help by simply placing their non-perishable donations in the bag by their mailbox.  Postal carriers will pick them up with the mail and deliver the food items to a local food bank.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Stamp out Hunger food drive.  According to the NALC website, letter carriers collected 70.2 million pounds of food across the nation.

“It’s our 20th anniversary,” NALC President Fredric Rolando noted in a statement on NALC.org.  “For two decades now, our annual national drive has proved critical in helping millions of American families—our customers—who are struggling to make ends meet during this continuing recession.

Please take a moment to make any size donation, to help this cause. Saturday, May 12th will be a day that all citizens have a chance, with the help of their letter carrier, to easily donate food to needy families in their community.
