boysandgirlsclublogoThere’s only a couple of days left to get your tickets to the 11th Annual Barn Dance with Gary P. Nunn and the Bunkhouse Band on Saturday, May 5th.

The Barn Dance and dinner take place at the beautiful Sorrel Canyon Ranch and supports the daily operation of the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County which serves approximately 150 children in the community daily. The Boys and Girls Club provides a safe place after school for kids to learn and grow and activities during the summer months. A limited amount of tickets are available at $75/per person. For questions or to make a donation, call 325-642-8220.

Ticket holders will enjoy a dinner by Copper Creek Catering featuring Chateau Briand with all the trimmings. Plus, the silent and live auctions have, as always, some impressive items up for grabs. A few of the high dollar live auction items announced are as follows:

  • South African Safari for two guns: A ten day trip to South Africa with airline vouchers and lodging will allow the winning bidder and a guest to hunt two plains animals on this safari adventure.
  • Fly Fishing Trip for Two: Winning bidder and a guest will have two days and nights at the famous Vermejo Park Ranch in New Mexico.
  • 2012 Polaris Sportsman HO 500 4-Wheeler
  • Three night trip to Sierra Verde in Cloudcroft, New Mexico

Many other impressive live auction items will be available as well.

Board President Michael Richardson confirmed there will be 20-25 live auction items and over 100 silent auction items.

The funds raised during the event will be used to support not only the daily operation of the Boys and Girls Club, which has a $250,000 operating budget to support, but also to fund special projects such as the summer swimming program and renovation projects of their facilities. Some of these projects have been started and need additional funding for their completion.

These renovation projects include:

  • Cafeteria:  Installing a water line, adding rest rooms and installing a water fountain. Currently there is no water to the cafeteria.
  • Gymnasium:  Resurfacing the walls of the gym and placing an awning over the walkway between the buildings for days with bad weather. Currently the gym has paneled walls, which were adequate when it was used with elementary children; however now with older kids, the walls have been damaged during play. The paneling is to be removed and replaced with a different surfacing material.
  • Fencing:  Perimeter fencing of the property is needed for additional safety for the children at the club.

According to Richardson, the cafeteria and gymnasium projects total approximately $75,000. The fencing is a $40,000-50,000 cost and now that the Club has been deeded the building, taxes and insurance adds an additional $8,000 to the Club’s budget, said Richardson.

It’s sure to be a great time and benefits such a worthy cause, the kids of the community, so get your tickets while you can. Call 325-642-8220 to purchase tickets or to make a donation.
