girlscouts_TYCOn Sunday, April 15, Girl Scout Troop 250 delivered books to Girl Scout Troop 5100 at the Ron Jackson Correctional Facility in Brownwood as part of their Bronze Award Second Chance Books service project. The Junior Girl Scouts collected more than 600 books through collection drop boxes and donations from local bookstores Book People, Barnes & Noble Westlake and Half-Price Books of Austin.

Veterans of worthy service projects, Troop 250 set out to help their fellow Girl Scouts in the correctional facility through the power of reading to earn their Bronze Award – the highest honor a Girl Scout Junior can achieve.

“The efforts and dedication of Troop 250 to do something to improve the lives of their fellow Girl Scouts at the Brownwood Correctional Facility is a perfect example of what a group of girls with a good idea and a big heart can do,” says Girl Scouts of Central Texas Chief Executive Officer Etta Moore. “By following the Girl Scout Law, Troop 250 is striving to make the world a better place and to be sisters to every Girl Scout.”

Girl Scout Troop 5100 is a part of the Uniquely Targeted Series – a form of Girl Scout community-based programming – designed to target underserved areas where Girl Scouts is not available due to socio-economic reasons.
