Texas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for April which showed a sharp increase for Brown County municipalities.

Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for the month are up more than 18% over April of last year.  The city is continuing to experience positive gains year-to-date of 8.9%.

The City of Early experienced an increase of more than 16% in April’s allocations pushing them now into positive territory with year-to-date totals showing an increase of  3.22% compared to last year.

“The latest sales tax revenue numbers mark a continuation of recent trends we have seen in sales tax receipts,” Combs said. “Strong collections continued in oil and gas-related sectors, while growth in revenue from the retail sector and restaurants also accelerated.”

Combs will send April local sales tax allocations totaling $488.7 million statewide to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 17 percent compared to April 2011.

The sales tax figures represent sales that occurred in February.
