Howard Payne University’s Social Work Advisory Board recently presented Angelia Bostick, director of Brownwood’s Good Samaritan Ministries, with the Spirit of Social Work award. Bostick received the award for “many years of outstanding social work service helping others.”

In presenting the award, Dan Humeniuk, director of HPU’s social work program, said “Our community is blessed to have a gifted administrator like Angelia Bostick responsible for an agency such as Good Samaritan Ministries, which serves so many individuals in times of deep need.”

Bostick, a 1979 HPU graduate, began working with Good Samaritan Ministries when it was created in 1993. Under her leadership, the organization has employed many innovative programs including the Deer Project, which encourages hunters to donate venison, and Food for Thought, which provides food for chronically hungry students in Brown County schools during the weekends when no other food source may be available.

Bostick has also served the community in a variety of other ways including on the board of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and assisted with the initial planning and organizational development of the Christian Women’s Job Corps and the Loaves and Fishes program.

HPU’s Social Work Advisory Board is comprised of individuals throughout the community who have an interest in the social work profession and HPU’s social work program. The board annually presents a Spirit of Social Work Award to an individual whose career reflects an outstanding contribution to the social work profession. It has been awarded to other individuals in the local community who have collaborated with the social work program and to distinguished program graduates.
