earlylonghornslogoSuperior ratings were earned by the Early ISD Choirs as they participated in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest held at Granbury High School on Tuesday, April 10, 2012.  Early ISD entered three varsity groups in the contest – a Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir composed of boys in grades 7-12, a Varsity Treble Choir composed of girls in grades 7-12, and a Varsity Mixed Choir composed of primarily 9-12 grade choral students.

Annually, the students are judged in two areas – the stage performance of three prepared pieces, and the sight-reading portion where the students are presented with a piece of choral music that they have never seen before.   Each area is judged independently; however, if a choir earns a superior rating for the stage performance and a superior rating in the sight-reading room, then a Sweepstakes award is given to that group.

Early’s Varsity Tenor/Bass Choir accomplished the task of earning a Sweepstakes award.  The Varsity Treble Choir earned an excellent rating on stage and a superior rating in sight-reading.  The Varsity Mixed Choir earned an excellent rating on stage and a superior rating in sight-reading.  All three choirs earned a combined total of nine superior ratings in sight-reading.  The Early choir program is under the direction of Judy C. Reed and Angie Prock.
