FacultyPromotions

Howard Payne University recently announced promotions for four faculty members on Monday.

Landry Blackstock was promoted to assistant professor of developmental studies. Blackstock received his bachelor’s degree from HPU in 2003 and his master’s degree from Tarleton State University in 2008. He joined HPU’s faculty in 2006.

Dr. Bill Fowler was named associate professor of Christian studies. Fowler received his bachelor’s degree from HPU in 1975 and his master’s and doctorate degrees from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in 1982 and 1995, respectively. He joined the HPU faculty in 2007.

Dr. Rusty Wheelington was promoted to associate professor of Christian studies. Wheelington received his bachelor’s degree from Dallas Baptist University in 1994; his master’s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1996; and his doctorate from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2005. He joined the HPU faculty in 2006.

Dr. Monte Garrett, who joined the HPU faculty in 2001, is now professor of music. Garrett earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hardin-Simmons University in 1991 and 2000, respectively. He went on to earn his doctorate from The University of Texas in 2010.

“These promotions are indicative of the hard work of these individuals,” said Dr. Mark Tew, provost and chief academic officer. “I am proud to work with such outstanding faculty as we have here at HPU.”
