The Howard Payne University tennis team was only able to pick up the number two singles point in an 8-1 loss to the Univesity of the Southwest Friday afternoon at the Nabers Tennis Center.

Ryan Prather defeated USW’s Teddy Yelley 6-3, 2-6, 4-1, retired in number two singles action. All other HPU singles players fell in straight sets. Luis Vallecillo and Jacob Cadena put up a fight in the number two doubles match but fell 8-6 to Richard Southern and Alfred Mohan of USW.

The Howard Payne men’s team wil play next on March 30th in Brownwood versus Sul Ross State University at 1:00 pm.

The Howard Payne University women’s tennis team fell 9-0 to Saint Catherine University in a non-conference match Saturday morning.

Howard Payne was able to meet up Saint Catherine University as they were making their way through Texas and had just days before played ASC rival Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. The Lady Jackets were not successfull and lost 9-0. The closest match for HPU on the day was the number four singles match with Larissa Lynskey losing 6-4, 7-5 to Angie Lorenzen St. Catherine.
