PenningtonBessieBessie Pennington, age 79 of Brownwood passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 in Brownwood. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, March 23, 2012, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Coleman City Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Bessie Magdalene Faries Pennington was born February 26, 1933 in Coleman County, Texas, to William David and Vila Lucille Faries. She married Billy Joe Pennington on June 2, 1951 in Coleman County. Bessie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Big Lake, TX.

Bessie was a fantastic fisherman, making use of her cane pole and grasshoppers to catch anything she wanted. Not only could she catch them, but also was great at cooking the fish as well. Bessie was also a very skilled seamstress, sewing both of her daughters’ wedding dresses. She and Billy Joe loved to travel and take their Sunday afternoon drives. Bessie also enjoyed gardening and growing her favorite flower; the dark red rose. She was a “fair” domino player and even dabbled in ranching. However, the most important thing to Bessie was her family. She was always involved in her children’s activities and loved big family gatherings. Bessie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; she will be dearly missed by all that knew her.

Mrs. Pennington was preceded in death by her husband; Billy Joe Pennington, her parents, 3 brothers; Glenn, Gerald, and Jerry Faries, her sister; Joyce Faries McCutchen, and her grandson; Timothy Edward Mathews.

Survivors include her son; Billy Ray Pennington and wife Charlene, 2 daughters; Caroline Pennington and Virginia Watkins and husband Johnny, her brother; David Faries, 2 grandchildren; Lori Watkins, and Cody John Watkins and wife Coral, and 2 great-grandchildren; Cheyenne and Caitlynn Watkins.
