The Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club of Early recently held its annual Sweetheart Night and Awards Banquet.  The spouses were treated to a night out and meal at the Brownwood Country Club.  Musical entertainment for the evening was provided by “Island” Phil.

Kiwanis Club President John Clifford gave a brief overview of the accomplishments and activities of the Club over this past year and presented last year’s president, Dale Courtright, with a plaque to recognize him for his outstanding leadership and the resulting successes of the Club in 2011.

President Clifford made mention and thanked Don Holland for his leadership as having served as the Kiwanis Texas/Oklahoma District, Division 12 Lt. Governor for the past two years.  President Clifford also noted that the current Division 12 Lt. Governor, Roy Parrack, also hails from the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club.

President Clifford recognized and thanked the Kiwanis Sponsored Leadership Program faculty advisors for their efforts this past year, with those being Kate Teston and the Builders Club of the Early Middle School, and Brittany Dunlap and Betty Molk of the Early High School Key Club.

The annual Sophomore-of-the-Year Award was presented to Early High School Sophomore Luke Broussard.  With Luke winning the Club’s award for Sophomore-of-the-Year, this qualifies Luke to be placed in consideration for the Kiwanis Division 12, Sophomore-of-the Year classification.

Perfect Attendance awards were presented to:

Janie Pursch – 1 year

David Price – 1 year

Deborah Price – 1 year

John Clifford – 2 years

Don Holland – 7 years

Ralph Watts – 8 years

Morris Horton – 9 years

Roy Parrack – 17 years

Bill Pursch – 19 years

Ricky Marks – 21 years

Bill Thedford – 28 years

Carol ‘Nick’ Nichols – 32 years

The Layperson of the Year and Spiritual Aims award was presented to David and Deborah Price.  Making the presentation to David and Deborah was last year’s recipient, John Clifford.

To conclude the evening’s festivities, President Clifford stressed that the successes of the Pecan Valley Kiwanis Club rests with the dedication and commitments of its entire membership.  President Clifford reminded the audience of what Kiwanis is … ‘Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.’
