LauraHullumISLPThis summer, outstanding college students from the United States and over 30 countries around the world will take part in unique career exploration programs in China, Australia and the United States. The International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) will provide high-achieving students with the opportunity for learning experience designed to inform and enrich their career objectives and foster their ambition to achieve their lifelong goals in a way unlike any other. These extraordinary pre-professional opportunities provide scholars with a chance to further their career development in the fields of business, diplomacy, international relations, engineering, medicine or nursing.

Laura Hullum of Early, Texas is a student at Ranger College, finalizing education in Registered Nursing. Hullum will join fellow nursing and medicine scholars in Sydney, Australia and later Brisbane.  As a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, Hullum was nominated for ISLP.  Laura has also been recognized for 2012 All American Academic Team.  Hullum returned to college concurrently to that of her son starting Texas A&M school of Architecture.

“My children learned diligence from the 18 years I worked; on that foundation I advocate education to the highest of one’s potential.”  Merit scholarship offers from University of Texas and Texas A&M postpone her imminent career plans. In Australia, Laura will learn through a comparative curriculum, gaining global understanding of how nursing is practiced while engaging in a culturally enriching experience.

In Sydney and Brisbane the scholars will compare and contrast what they see and learn with current methods and procedures in their home countries. As scholars travel throughout Australia, they discuss and debate leading issues while interacting with professionals in medicine.  The program includes community service, the science of healing in midwifery, aboriginal health in nontraditional setting and the collaboration of care in tropical setting.  Laura will receive college credit from George Mason University in Virginia for her curriculum abroad.

For additional information, visit the ISLP web site at www.scholarlaureate.org.
