On Saturday, February 18th, Brownwood High School and Middle School choir students competed in the UIL Solo and Ensemble competition at Howard Payne University.  Several students from both schools came away from the competition with high ratings.

From the high school, Kolton Robertson made an excellent rating of 2 on his solo while Sierra Mendez, Selena Ayala, and Sierra Pearcy received superior ratings on their solos.

In addition, the following students made a 1/superior rating on their solos and have qualified for state: Leanna Johnson, Zak Webb, Garrett Woods, Kalin Young, Shelbi Winstead, Kelsey Reid, Meredith Underwood, Trey Fawcett, Nathan Ross, Jessica Bailey, Kourtney Gainey, and Emily Dick.

At the middle school level the following students competed and received a 1/superior rating on their solos: Audrey McKillip, Dakota Lyon, Katie Griffin, Jack Robinson, Isaiah Mims, Bruce Sterling, Abby Ibarra, Allie Odle, Courtney Callaway, and McKenna McDonald.

Alex Alonzo made a 2/excellent rating on her solo, and two middle school ensembles that received a 1/ superior rating on their solos were Concert Girls Ensemble with Dakota Lyon, Natalie Sliger, and Destiny Bible, and Select Girls Ensemble with Cheyenne Darneal, Trejouir Wilson, Bailey Perry, Abby Ibarra, Katy Griffin, Ashley Strong, Lizzie McCrane, Ashley Gomez, Sadie Perez, Audrey McKillip, and Allie Odle.

Musicians that helped to prepare the choir students at one or both schools include Brownwood Middle School Choir Director, Amber Chapleau, Brownwood Intermediate School Choir Director, Amber Jones, Professor of Piano Pedagogy at Howard Payne University, Dr. Liz Wallace, Brownwood High School Choir Director Patricia Garrett, and Minister of Music at Coggin Ave Baptist Church, James Ervin.
